Old but new office space!

So after 6 months I decided to move my office back home. I missed being at home too much and when Damon (8) said to me after school one day “mum, I’m glad your working at home again, we missed you” I knew I made the right decision. Only difference this time is that Lincoln didn’t want a workspace because he prefers to work in front of the TV if at all so  I sold half the furniture.

This is what my office looks like now and it always makes me laugh to hear “oh so it’s like a real office” from visitors.

Looking good Kylie!

What was it about your external office that you didn’t like? Were you spending a lot of time there or were you finding that you weren’t? I’m contemplating moving into physical office space outside of my home office in 2009 but I’d love your feedback on what you thought about it.

Actually Erin, there wasn’t anything I disliked about the office at all. Right from the start it pulled at me but my kids are still very young and so when my employee resigned I took that opportunity to move back home. I felt like a part time mum and that’s not something I like at all.

Overall it helped me to develop excellent habits like not working weekends (much lol) and at night. It gave a sense of ‘permanence’ to my business and I found more local business just through being in an external office space.

The main reason I moved back home was the lack of flexibility. I missed it too much and being in an office means that people expect you to be there from 9am to 5pm. With small children (8, 5 and 2) it just didn’t happen for me and in the end I was paying someone to babysit the office on the off chance that someone might stop by and find the office closed.

Good luck deciding!

Makes me yearn to have mine set up properly now! :( It will still be a few weeks away but it will be gorgeous when its done (polished floorboards, completely separate from the house and BIG!) Congrats honey.

Love it Kylie! My dad flew in from New Mexico this week to build my dream office while I’m at the real estate convention in Florida. I can’t wait to decorate. Sending good wishes your way.
